Special Address

Ekenem Isichei serves as Deputy Director, Program Advocacy & Communications, Nigeria at the Gates Foundation. In this capacity, Ekenem leads the design and execution of high-impact advocacy and communications strategies that advance the Foundation’s policy and financing objectives in Nigeria, ensuring alignment with both programmatic priorities and cross-cutting national development outcomes. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to strengthening partnerships, mobilizing resources, and shaping narratives that drive sustainable change.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Ekenem provided strategic advisory services across seven African countries, working with governments, private sector institutions, and development partners to strengthen systems and accelerate impact. His professional portfolio spans critical sectors including health systems, energy, social development, ICT, and manufacturing. Having lived and worked across Europe, North America, the Caribbean, and Africa, Ekenem brings a truly global perspective to leadership and policy engagement in Nigeria and beyond.

Ekenem is widely recognized for his expertise in advocacy, strategy, public affairs, and risk management, where his work has not only enhanced business performance but also influenced national and regional policies across African markets. His ability to integrate evidence, diplomacy, and stakeholder alignment has positioned him as a trusted leader at the intersection of policy, development, and private sector innovation.

Ekenem holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Master’s degree in Engineering Management. His academic foundation is further strengthened by executive education from Harvard University and the Wharton School of Business, underscoring his commitment to continuous leadership development.
